So the plan is to prepare for the UK Ironman in 2014 and the Ultra Du Mont Blanc in the same year, that is of course, if I get places, as both are heavily subscribed. For the Ironman I will need to prepare my ability to swim and cycle, so I plan to complete a series of Triathlons in 2013 and early 2014 to get myself up to a level for this. Equally, do complete the Mont Blanc Ultra, I will need to have run and finished in a number of qualifying races before I’m even allowed to attempt to enter the race.
The Triathlon training starts here, I’ve joined a local gym and started to increase my swimming. The gym only has an 18 metre pool but it’s a start, and I really am starting from scratch with the swimming. As a child I had swimming lessons, so I can actually swim, however at the moment front crawl makes me feel like I’m drowning. I’ve managed to get myself up from two lengths to 4 lengths in only a few weeks, so that’s something at least. It’s going to be hard to get myself up to standard for my first Triathlon though. For years my stroke of choice was breast stroke, I can do this for many lengths, but at a steady, stately pace, which isn’t really much good for competitions. We all have to start somewhere. I intend to update this blog a lot more frequently, now with updates on my training schedule, and what I’m doing to help assist anyone else trying to do the same.
For now, I need to plan my training programme! It starts here!
